When will my cats stop looking for my other cat that just died2007-11-25 12:30:13

On Tuesday I had to have one of my cats put down and my other two cats are acting different. They walk all around the house looking for him. They cry and won't eat like they use to. They never really leave my side or my husband's. It breaks my heart to see them like this. How long will they be like this? I've never had to deal with this before. Thanks

I had 3 cats pass away on me and with the passing of each cat I had this same problem with my animals being in depression. For each cat it took about a year to get over the death of the other. I spoiled them, played with them, never disciplined them, got excited and played with them like small children. They appreciate the comfort of being held, and being babied, start a new routine with them like soft cat food a certain day of the week, or a new trick to show them, like how to knock a bottle off a table. Just like us they need distractions, learning, and knew ideas to grow and get over the past traumas in life. Your time with them means everything. Love them and treat them like little kings and queens. It worked for my cat well, I took focus off the old, and moved on to new stuff. Let them outdoors on a leash one time, just give them new experiences to help them move on.
