Where the heck do Siamese cats get their reputation
I've heard all varieties of opinions from people about the Siamese breed of cat: they're cantankerous, loud, mean, unlovable, cruel, and absolutely hate people. Now, I've always been more of a dog person than a cat person, AND I'm allergic to cats, so I'd be the easiest to convince that these animals are terrible. But in my lifetime I have known 3 gorgeous, sweet and loveable siamese cats who in all honesty have been my most favorite individual pets in memory. And they're the reason why I got a Siamese myself, when I finally made the decision to get a cat of my own. And compared to the other breeds of cats that my friends own, Oz is the biggest lap-cat (even while still a rowdy kitten!), the most huggable, kissable, pick-up-able little creature I have ever known. The first time you meet him he'll play with you for half an hour, then curl up in your lap and fall dead asleep.
Are people just getting these opinions from the Siamese cats in the movie 101 Dalmations?
Answers:The only Siamese cats I know are wonderful. They are very dog like and will protect their owners and property. Some can be loud and "talk" alot. I think a lot of the ideas that they are mean come from movies. Like you said 101 Damlatians..there were mean cats and look what happened to the dogs. Thousands of people got a Dal and then most of them were dumped in the pound cuz they didn't act like the cute dogs in the movie.

Siamese cats are commonly known to be somewhat protective of their masters. I read that the monks in Nepal (and other countries) use them in their monasteries (sp) as guards for their possessions. They can be pretty vicious.
I agree 100% with you. Siamese are very intelligent and I think they prefer owners that are loving yet repsectful of them. I know it sounds silly, but its true. My husband thinks my siamese has an "attitude". I think he is the most precious, adorable cat.
