I use Fresh Step and the Litter Maid electric litter box and have no odor (I ask people regularly) in the house. Expensive, but effective!
Well, you can get that perfumed stuff, but really the best thing to do is scoop everyday and change litter every week.

use tidy cat. all the other ones suck no matter what it says on the bag. ive tried all of them and get tidy cat with an extra odor eliminator
The new silica gel stuff is fabulous.
I use the cheapest litter I can find and add baking soda. It works much better and less expensive than the leading brands.
I just asked this question a couple months ago, as I was moving into a two bedroom apratment with three cats, a lot of people recommended tiday cat, I couldn't find it here, so I discovered arm and hammer super scoop, it is wonderful!! I can't even smell the ammonia in the pee whiile I'm scooping it out.

The way to keep the odors away is to clean the liter daily of the waste! I also use Arm and hammer baking soda to deodorize it!!

Think about what's going in there. It's never going to smell like a bunch of roses. Just make sure that you clean it everyday, or keep it in a place where you don't normally go.
