After trying everything to retrain a cat, and you have to make a decision, do you.

Declaw the cat or take it to a shelter, where it will experience stress, illness, and possible euthanasia?

Answers:

Declaw the cat!! Is this something you really even have to ask? You would be willing to give up your furry little companiion instead of just having declawed? Sure, it will be in some pain for a while afterwards but better than taking the chance of it never finding a loving home again!

Declaw. I have done it..er I mean the vet did.
Have it declawed for sure!
Declaw it !! The pain is inconsequential compared to euthanizing.
All 3 of mine are declawed. Our household is much more harmonious, as I'm not yelling at them constantly to stop scratching up my furniture and door jambs. We had to replace most of the door jambs in our old house before selling it. When we moved into our new house, I had the oldest cat declawed first, thinking that since he was the one that taught the others, maybe they would stop. The behavior was already learned, though, so the other two were declawed as well. Their little paws look exactly the same -- no missing ends of toes or any other wives tale. The only difference is that when you push on their pads, no claws pop out. They even try to sharpen their missing claws on things. So, if it were really the torture that some people claim it is for a cat, why are they completely pain free in very little time to the point of trying to sharpen the missing claws?
