Who can I get to take care of my cats

Who can I get to take care of my cats2007-11-25 12:30:52

I need to go interstate for a week or so. I have two cats that will have to be left alone, but the obvious problem is that no one will be there to clean their litter. Even if I prepare a number of litter boxes, the neighbours might complain about the stench.

I don't have friends that I am comfortable enough to ask to clean up their sh** and I can't afford to take them to a carer.

P.S. I live on 3rd floor so I can't let them out to do their thing in the garden like most people could.

I have cats, too, and I understand your situation.

The best answer for the cats' sake is to have a professional pet sitter come to your place. Cats don't like to be taken out of their homes, even when it is to a good caretaker.

These people are bonded to protect your property, and may cost $12 - $18 a day for routine care.

Check your local yellow pages, or with your vet. They usually know the best pet sitters in your area. Get references, meet with a few and see how they get along with you and your cats.

That's how I found mine, and she been with us almost as long as we've had our cats.

If the money is an issue (maybe $100 for the week), believe me it will be worth the peace of mind.

Do NOT board your cats. You can never be sure how they will be treated, and they could contract disease (like kids in daycare, and if you know how crummy even the best of day cares are, animal boarding is far far worse.)
