Why Do My Cats Have Runny Eyes, etc
My 2 cats have runny eyes. I adopted one of them recently, brought him home, and he gave the cat I already had runny eyes. She (old cat) has been scratching off fur from her neck. She had diarrhea last nite once. Any ideas? They are both up to date on Frontline Plus, and I've treated them both with tetracycline drops, thinking it could be chlamidia. I'm going to go back to the drops and try treating more aggressively (maybe for a month straight) and see if that works. But if anyone has any other suggestions and experience with this, please let me know. I'm too broke at this present time to see a vet, unfortunately, but I thought maybe there'd be somebody out in Yahooland who might have advice. Thanx.
Answers:as far as the runny eyes, it could be a simple upper respiratory infection.or allergies. the scratching off of the fur and the loose stool could be simple stress. how do they get along?? the new kitty could have also brought home worms. most vets if you have been there before will let you drop off a stool sample and you can do that for pretty cheap and at least you could rule out worms.. give the vet the worst sample .you dont even have to tell him you got another cat, just tell him its your cats stool. they can run it and give you meds.thats when you say," well I have 2 cats could I please get enough meds for both, since they share a litter box?" most of the time thats not an issue.. good luck Smile.another thing is the person/place you adopted the new one might have a repore with a vet and might be able to get you a stool check and meds if needed..
wow. poor little kitties. you could call the local spca and ask to speak to a vet, they could probaby steer you in the right direction for free.
I am so sorry to say that I had a cat like that lat year and it gave another cat that my friend had the same disease. He suffered horible pain and always moaned and groaned. He was like that before I had got him. He eventually died and felt bad for the pain that I let him go through. My best advice would be to go to the vet and see if there is a cure, or just have them put down. I am sorry that this happened to you too.
before applying the tetracycline ointment try flushing the eyes first with some sterile normal saline solution- preservative free - it usaully comes in a squeeze bottle you can get it at cvs or any drug store. clean the eyes using separate wipes for each eye & clen from the part of the eye closest to the nose out
For runny eyes, you can try a boric acid solution. You can get it at most drug stores, and mix it up and put on eyes. Should relieve runniness pretty quickly.
