In general ginger cats are male,if mother is ginger you can get a female (i have a ginger female), ginger females are mainly always a dark ginger. You can get torti males generally their infertile, Japanese regard the torti male as good luck.
Hope this helps
Actually, I've seen some ginger females around. I think it's something to do with cromosones - certain colours of fur are linked to male or female data.
I have a female ginger. everyone is amazed by her..
You do get male and female in both colours but for some reason most ginger cats are toms
The real question is, if ginger cats are always male, why do we differentiate the genders by using the term ginger tom?
they are not. Ginger cats are male and female likewise tortoiseshells are both male and female.
it is for breeding purpose.cross a tortoiseshell with a ginger and then u see why
Ginger cats can by either male or female. Calico and tortise are always female unless there is a very rare genetic abberation. The genetic codes for the orange and black fur are carried only by the X chromosome. Therefore XX equals both colors sometimes. If a male.. chromosomes are XXY. These are usually sterile and deformed , therefore they don't live long and cannot reproduce.
Because they are!!
