I think they like the crinkling noise. My cat always sits in boxes. Even if the box is too small, he tries to cram his big butt in there.

My cats (all three) do the same thing. They have a square shaped box-like toy they play in too. Also I get the newspaper delivered and they are in plastic wrap bags and they love those. I also have those cat box liners that have wholes for the clean litter to funnel through, and they are plastic and they love those. I must be the noise!

That's why cats are called curious. My cat is intrigued by the dvd tray when it pops out. She will sit on top of the entertainment center for hours, just waiting for it to open again.
