Why do cats purr

Why do cats purr2007-11-25 12:31:46Answers:

Well, there has been many possible solutions given to that but.., the answer to that question is a mystery to me--and to the many scientists who have studied cats and cannot figure out exactly why they purr! If you have a kitty, you've probably heard that familiar rumble when you pet her or when she's sitting all content and cozy on your lap--there can be no doubt she's all-out happy! But cats also purr when they are really sick or really scared. Some studies say that perhaps they are trying to comfort themselves.

Their happy.
coz they gay
there showing there emotions it means there happy
to let you know it's happy like we smile
actually, it may seem strange, but no one really knows why cats purr.we do know that cats can purr when they are happy and content, AND when they are anxious or intimidated.but apparently the cut and dried reason why they purr has never been authoritatiively discovered.
The usual reason is that they are happy and quite content.

BTW Info Pirate.cats are NOT gay. You're just a hater.

It's their version of smiling. And their way of showing affectioin.
It's funny a LOT of ppl say that cats purr bc they are happy NOT TRUE! LoL well yeah ok sometimes but also when they are scared or angry basically really strong emotions. Most common is purring when happy but when you see an angry cat that's purring I wouldn't suggest you pet it!
They purr when they are happy, but that is not the only reason. I have 1 who purrs like crazy at the vet because he is so anxious.
depends on the purr.if a slow steady purr theyare content. if a quick panting-like purr they may be hot or thirsty or hungry.if it's slow and loud they may be angry with you,and are warning you or another animal that they are ready to attack. i had a cat once named "eben" who used to beat up the neighbor's big bad doberman named "red" they grew to have a respet for each other, and "red"and"eben"grew to be close "friends".eben has even protected us from a burglar that was trying to come in my mom's bedroom window he scared the guy so badly he almost fell off the firescape.
purring is a sign of satisfaction .. but alotta people don't know that purring can also be a sign of pain or distress also . so depending on what going on purring could mean diffrent things. I had a cat named george that had his back broke when a ladder fell on him . we took him to the vet and while we was putting him down he purred to his last breath.. so in his case he could have been comfortable and again he could have been in pain .. I like to believe he was happy purring .. helped me cope with his death
They are content.
elephants and cheetahs purr to.
its their way of saying their happy
While no one knows exactly how or why cats purr, they have observed one interesting fact: felines that can roar (like lions, etc) can't purr, and felines that can purr can't roar. Apparently they're related, these two feline abilities.

Yes, most cats most often purr because they're happy and contented. some do purr for other reasons. Have you ever known another human who had the idiosyncrasy of smiling or giggling when nervous? Some cats do their happy thing (purring) when nervous just like some people smile or laugh when nervous.
