Why is my 6 month old cat still suckling
This cat is the only surviving one out of the litter. But is that any reason for the mother to still allow suckling?
Answers:my friend had two cats that gave birth roughly at the same time. sadly only a few from one of the litters lived all the others died. the kitten they kept sucked off his auntie for over 12 months. his mum didnt care. hes fine and his auntie was fine. doesnt seemed to of hurt them. i think it makes a stronger bond.
she will wean it when she is ready. She obviously has lots of food. I have seen much older kittens than this suck.
they do that
one of our cats is a big bruiser type but he was a year old when he used to still try to suckle from his mum, she didnt mind till one day she had enough and punched him and that was the end of it.
he does not need to . but wants too..
It's like those kids on TV who are about 10 years old and still breast feed.
either not properly weaned yet or it can just be a comfort thing
well, usually the mother will get tired of letting the babies nurse and she will ween them, but sometimes it takes a little while.
She obviously enjoys it
I think they do it as a comfort thing, my cat was 7 and he used to try and suckle the mole on my chin..much to my disdain.
Cats will sometimes do this as long as they are able. I think it is for comfort. We used to have an adult cat that suckled off our dog.
