Why is my cat scratching her butt on the rug and peaing on blankets2007-11-25 12:33:01

My cat Carley has recently started peaing on blankets. She is littler box trained and I am not sure why she is doing this. She is also rubbing her butt on the carpet. What is wrong with her?

Answers:

Sounds like a urinary tract infection, or yeast infection.

Straining, pain or difficulty urinating

Blood in the urine

Foul smelling urine

Urination in inappropriate places

Tender lower abdomen (in the area of the bladder)

Fever

Lethargy

Inflammation of the urinary tract in cats may produce UTI-like symptoms, and is a serious health problem. If your cat exhibits any of the above symptoms, take him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Male cats can show the above signs when their urinary tract is obstructed. This can be life threatening in a short period of time.

Females have a wider and shorter urethra than males and are affected by UTIs more often. Males can get UTIs though, especially when they are intact (non-neutered). Your veterinarian will test your pet's urine to diagnose a UTI.

She may have worms or a bladder infection. Take her to the vet.
Animals rub their bottoms on carpet to show that they either have to go to the bathroom or that their bottom is itchy or irritated. As for the peeing on on blankets, it's probably a territorial thing. Have you recently gotten another animal? She could be jealous and is just trying to mark her territory. If not, consult a vet.
Yea a bladder infection sounds about right for the peeing but scratching her butt maybe because the is in heat.
I think either she has a urinary tract infection or she has worms. Most cats do that when they are sick with something like that. My cat just smelled another cat and pissed on a coat of mine. Good Luck
I'm not a vet, so I would take her to your local vet first, but I have had 5 cats over the years and it sounds like it is behavioral to me. Do you have any other cats inside OR outside ? Or ANY other animals ? If you don't have any other animals, do you have a new man/person in your life that is sharing your bed ? Another thought..are you gone alot of the time ? It could be most anything. Don't ever punish the cat.as she is trying to tell you something. Try to think on her level and see if there is anything that has changed around your house. But I would take her to the vet to rule out anything medical first. It's also possible that she could have a urinary infection, or worms. Is she fixed ? That could also be a possiblity. Check them all out and good luck !
your cat is showing signs of dominance and would like more attention and if your feeding her wet food switch to the hard cat food its way better for her teeth.
Cats rub their behinds on carpets when they have worms, round or tape and sometimes when their anal glands are getting impacted.
