Why is my male cat being mean to my female all of a sudden
My male cat is five years old (fixed and de-clawed), My female is 1 and she was spayed and de-clawed yesterday, both are inside cats. The male took awhile to come around at first, but over the year they have become the best of friends, the play at night and cuddle by day, and he seemed excited to see her when she came home today, more like smell her! but just now I caught him hissing at her everytime she came near him, I'm not sure if she did it first, or what is going on?! Could he be trying to dominate her all over again?!
Answers:I concur with what has been said by everyone. This is normal behavior among all cats. If this was the other way around, I can assure you that your female cat would do the same thing to him. My wife and I have 9 cats(4 of our own, 1 male & 3 females) plus 6 more that we inherieted from her mother and sister( 2 males, & 5 females). This happens with ours too. And some times they just want to be left alone. It really all depends what mood they are in. So just keep them apart for now, and things will be back to normal after awhile. Good luck and just keep asking those questions you might have. We're all here to help each other!!
She smells like the vet for one, and he's also freaked out that she was suddenly gone, and is now suddenly back again. Cats are creatures of habit, change is quite upsetting to them. Keep them separated tonight (your girl needs the rest). In a few days, they should be back to normal.
He pobably smells another feline's scent on her or a scent of another animal..maybe even someone who handled her..
Cats are very territorial and he probably views your female as his...He will get over it soon enough when she cleans herself and gets her scent/your scent/ and his back onto her body...If this continues Im not sure what his problem is.
Your male cat has two conflicting bits of information from your female - she looks familiar and she smells different. He is re-establishing his boundaries. She may also be a bit grouchy because of her recent vet visit. I concur, keep them separate for at least tonight, longer if they are still hissy tomorrow. If they were friends before, they will be again.
