Why is my male cat terrorizing my female cat
My male and female cat have gotten along since they first met almost two years ago. My male cat is SO friendly and such a nice 2-year-old cat. My 2 1/2-year-old female cat is your typical female. She doesn't like to play with our male cat, and he is always chasing her and she hates it.
Well, just recently, my male cat has been hurting my female cat (but it's not like he's mad!). Today, my female cat screamed really loud because my male cat had torn a bunch of her fur out!!
Why is he doing this?? He's so friendly and he's never done this since they've known each other!! (both cats go inside and outside the house.) There is one more male cat that only stays outside. The female cat doesn't really like him, SHE beats HIM up, but the these two male cats get along really well and they don't beat each other up. THANKS.
Answers:Sometimes, cats will chase/terrorize another cat who is ill. It's part of the survival of the fittest instinct. It doesn't necessarily mean your kitty is, but if she hasn't been to a vet recently, take her in for an office visit, if you think she might be. It's also possible there's another new cat coming around that your male senses and may be taking it out on your female. Look for posts about displaced aggression and if it seem's more fitting to your situation, you can buy a product called Feliway at any of the larger pet supply stores which should help. You can also order it directly and read about how it works at www.feliway.com.
my cats fight all the time too. i think that it might be their way of playing. the male cat might be trying to get the attention of the female cat.
I wonder if its a dominance thing. I had a gray tabby male who was the sweetest and gentlest cat ever. Yet he would chase my female cat out of the room if she ever dared to enter when he was there. My gray tabby died and I got another male kitten. The male kitten got along fine with the female until he was about a year old -- now my female cat doesnt' even come out of my basement and she hides from everyone. All of my cats were 'fixed' by the way.
This doesnt seem to answer much, but I do think that cats are very territorial and that one of the cats is establishing authority.
The Male cat is showing that he is the dominant one of the house. He is the king of the castle. I have 3 cats myself. 2 males and 1 female. One is 2 years old and the other is 6 months. They get along like brothers. However the oldest one will go after my 13 year old female. Not to the extent that yours does. I think its something that felines do. I thought once the male cat was fixed it would solve the problem but it did not. I would be glad to know how to stop this behavior as well. Besides keeping them separated. Hope this helps a bit.
