Why is the behaviour of my cat weird2007-11-25 12:33:05

I have a 6 month old female kitten. What's so weird about her is that she sometimes likes to use both her front legs to press me.

It's like she's massaging me with both her front legs alternatively on my hands, thighs, etc.

Is it because she has start her mating season?

But I've handled so many cats before and this is the first time I'm seeing something like this.

Hi Angel.the action you are describing is called kneading. Cats do this when they are very content/happy. Some cats will not do this, but many do.

she likes you and she's showing it by her instint of feeding from her mother. cats like to do that when they are really happy.

All cats do that, so it's not doing anything weird, which kind of invalidates your question.

my moms cat does that. guess it is because she loves you. my moms cat also rubs her head on my moms when my mom sits down. its so cute!! :)

It stems from her kitten-hood. When nursing from her momma cat, she massaged the momma cat's teats, in order to induce a "let-down" of milk.

It's a comfort thing now. If you cats really content, she'll start massaging whatever is nearest to her. She loves you and is very content when she's near you.

no shes doing it because shes happy. It has nothing to do with mating! Shes happy and wants to lay down, so shes massaging out a good place to lay. Nothing weird about it!!

this is normal behavior in cats at least in all the cats I ever had. sounds like she is real friendly. She shouldn't be having a mating season get her SPAYED. If you don't think spaying is important go to your local shelter in June, July and August and see all the unwanted kittens. Most never get adopted but put to sleep.
