Why is there a purple/blue string coming from my cats tummy
We had her spayed about a few weeks ago. Went and her stitches taken out. The other night i picked her up to look at her incision to see how it was healing and much to my surprise there was a STRING coming through it. I figure it to be an internal stitch? But when I checked it today there was a ** liquid with a small, miniscule amount of blood. I plan on taking her to the vet after a while, but I what I want to know is. Is this normal?
Answers:Sorry for pointing out the OBVIOUS, but yes take her to the vet. My Stimpy told me to say that; I do wish she'd quit reading over my shoulder.
It might just be a protruding stitch, but who knows, maybe they left something in there. Just go have them look at it. It it not the usual thing.
It might be an internal stitch that has come loose, and as long as your cat isn't pulling it herself, and it isn't causing your cat discomfort, you could leave it a few weeks. Otherwise, (and I think this is more likely) take her to the vets as soon as you can. Don't pull the string yourself.
It sounds like she has an infection if there's pus.
I've never seen blue string used as suture material, but it does sound as though suture material is coming through the abdominal wall.
Hope your vet appointment is REAL SOON!! You don't want an infection raging that could possibly be fatal.
This happened when I had my dog spayed. She got a low grade infection from her internal stitches and I had to take her back to the vet. They had to open the outer incision and clean up the internal, then sew her back up again.
It sounds like it is an internal stitch. These usually take a number of weeks to dissolve and it has seems to have worked it's way loose as it is breaking down. There could be a mild infection which has caused the the wound to open slightly, especially if your cat has been licking at it.
