Will brother and sister cats mate2007-11-25 12:33:13

I have a brother and sister, and have been unable to get one of them fixed as yet. They are 7 months old. I grew up on a ranch, having tons of cats, but it was never an issue (being on a ranch) of having to get them fixed. We don't want to end up with kittens, but I had thought that cats matured or went into heat at 6 months old. Female has shown no sign, but male has definatly matured. So now I need to find out exact facts here as to when cats actually do hit their 'mature' stage, and will they actually attempt to mate with eachother.

Yes they have both reached the age. You will find your female crawling along the floor rubbing up against the male. Yes they will mate, and yes you will have kittens. Get the boy fixed first, its the least expensive one to do, then when you can, get the girl fixed, but make sure she doesn't go outside before she's fixed as the strays in the neighborhood will mate with her too. The male will also start to spray in the house. That isn't good either.

They can, but it is not recommended. Within a couple of generations, birth defects begin to present very frequently. If you don't want kittens, get him neutered and her spayed.

They will and their children will be absolutely crazy. It happened to us, and we gave the kittens away, then got the mother fixed. Everyone said that the kittens were psycho.

Any time from 4 months, cats will sexually mature, and they could care less if it's incest.
