Will giving my 6 week old kitten pedialyte kill her2007-11-25 12:33:14

Shes a rescued kitten.her bowels is really loss

not knowing what is found in pedialyte wont harm your kitten but i would be a little cautious on giving a kitten something that a baby takes for being dehydrated just monitor your kittens behvior and give it a little bit at a time to see how he or she reacts to it

lol that's good to know that it won't hurt her, but I can tell you that kittens will do that. but if it's happening too often, you might wanna try changing her diet. If all food does that to her, then absolutely take her to a vet. (you should set a date to do that anyway, to get her vaccinnated. 6 months is close to the right age as best I can remember, but I might be wrong)

Pedialyte is fine for your kitten. But, if her bowels are loose you need to try a bit of pepto bismol. If you have a medicine syringe give her about one cc every 3 hours till she gets better. If no syringe..let her lick a nickel sized amount off of a spoon. When giving the pedialyte only give her about 1/4 cup every 2 hours. The pedialyte may make her bowels a bit more loose till the pepto gets in her system..but be dilligent..she should be fine in a few hours.

What are you feeding her? A six week old could be ready for some soft food. Human baby food, the junior meats like chicken or turkey. Don't use beef as it is hard on some cats. The baby food must contain NO onion or garlic so read the label carefully before buying and cannot be used for a long time as it doesn't contain any taurine, essential for cats. It's OK for short-term nutrition. Baby rice cereal can also be used, mixed with the kitten replacement milk KMR from the pet store. No cow's milk EVER for a sick kitten.

Use these only if she eats them. Do not force her with a bottle as she could get some in her lungs and cause pneumonia. Feed her small amounts from your fingers and smear a little around her mouth for her to lick off.

Pedialyte is made for people and balanced for the needs of people. If you're worried about hydrating a cat you need to do it with just water or Sub-Q fluids provided by your vet.
