Will my cats roam less after I get them fixed2007-11-25 12:33:58

My two male cats became old enough to get fixed a while ago, and since they both have lived outside all their lives, they would hate to go inside. One of them in particular roams to much. when he is fixed will he stay home more?

Answers:

Well, he won't be going looking for female cats to mate with. Male cats will wander very far away from home and into dangerous traffic or encounters with aggressive dogs when on the prowl for females.

So your cats have a better chance of surviving if they are neutered. They also will not be bitten by other male cats who can be carrying FIV or leukemia.

Most likely. However, the need to hunt and explore will always be there, just probably to a lesser extent. Inside cats still hunt and explore -- and live longer!

Having your pet fixed is not a guarantee that it will stay at home. I have had quite a few neutered and believe me.they still roam every chance they get. I am constantly having to call them to come home(they stay home for a while and then they roam for a couple or few days at a time and it worries me, but they love to be outside).they also still fight and some of them still spray.
