Will these two get along Help please2007-11-25 12:34:03

I found a female spayed cat over around my mom's on halloween. and i brought her home. I have a male cat. I was woundering if they will get along with each other in time. or are they going to kill each other?

Answers:

Yes they will, it will take time , let the two cat's be around each other , but keep a close eye on them , if they start fighting each other , keep a spray bottle in handy , squrit them and say no. They will know that is wrong to do and they will get along . It will take months and maybe a year . But they will like each other at the end . Enjoy your new cat. I have a old female cat and a new kitten , they took months to get along . But they get along now.

they will adjust with each other..your male cat and new cat have to get used to each other, they will be ok
Is your male cat fixed as well ? He should be if he isnt' already. Sometimes, even if both of the opposite sex are fixed, it will not work out. But that's a chance you take. Try giving them baths back to back.then they will smell the same..feed them together..etc, etc.see what happens.
With my experience in the past, they will start to get along. Maybe not cuddly pals but they will tolerate one another. It may not seem like it now but it will happen. The male cat is just protecting his domain and once he's figured out that this cat is not a threat then he will back off. Promise.
They'll get along in time. They're probably getting used to each other.
There is no real way to tell. I find that a male/female combo is usually best if they didn't grow up together. Bringing a male into a home where there is already another male is usually worse. And females are usually "catty" (hee hee) with eachother. Give em time and they will be ok. Keep a close eye on them until your sure. Also, are you sure this wasn't someone's cat around your mom's? I would check the paper or local police department to make sure since they cat is already spayed.
At first, in case they aren't comfortable with eachother, put them in two seperate areas divided up by a baby-proof/doggie door. Then they can sniff eachother, but not attack. Keep these meetings no longer than an hour. After a few of these, have you and someone else watch both of the animals in the same room in case one starts to attack.
Most likely they will grow to like eachother, but at first they probably won't like each other to well or maybe they will hate eachother, but they won't kill eachother!
Having your male neutered will help a lot. Other than that, most cats will learn to at least tolerate each other. If they're hissing and swatting, that's normal. Cats are very territorial (females are nearly as bad as males) and they will test each other to determine boundaries and establish a pecking order (see which cat is alpha). Your male will most likely end up with dominant cat status unless the female is older.

As long as they're not fighting to hurt each other (and you'll know if that's what they're doing by the screeches, growls, and blood, lol), then it's best to just stay out of it and let them work things out on their own.
