We've gotten a 5 month old male cat a week ago. He is following me and loves to play. But he is, I would say, agressive towards my dad. For example, my dad was trying to pad him when he was laying on a chair and the cat started to hiss at him and scratch him.

Why is the cat only nice to me and does not like anyone else? Is there anything we could do to make him like other people, not just me?

your cat is a "one person" cat; but it would be possible to help him accept other members of your family. Start by asking your freinds and relatives not to pat your cat in the meantime and just to ignore it. allow the cat to get accustomed to their presence around you and see for itself that they pose no danger. Eventually, your cat will come to accept them and even allow itself to be petted.

Does your Dad wear any cologne? Perhaps the cat doesn't like the smell of cologne or deodorant.

time helps. usually cats dont like unfamiliar things. if other people are around more the cat will get used to them.

The logical answer is that someone of your dad's age or resemblance was abusive to the cat. But with cats you just never know. If your dad is nice to him, he will come around.

Maybe he doesn't like they way your dad smells. Nothing offensive! Does your dad have dogs or other cats? Maybe the smell of another animal bothers him. It could also be his aftershave, Cologne, shave cream, soap, or even deodorant. Maybe if your dad gave him cat treats every time he approaches him then gives him a pat, he will come around.
