my little escape artist
I have a wonderful 2 yr old cat named Kya, I am currently living in an apt with her and every day when I get home she is waiting at the front door and runs into the hallway as soon as I open the door, which for now is not a problem except that I am getting ready to move to a house and I am afraid she will run out the door and runaway since there will be nomore hallways. I need to break her of the habbit of running out the front door as soon as it opens. I dont know how
Answers:I've heard that when you don't want your cat doing something you can mist them with a spray bottle of water.which will stop them from doing it.they also said stay persistent.
my kitten does this. except she does not run far. she will get halfway down the sidewalk and freeze. then i can just go pick her up. also, when i used to have dogs. i would stick knee in the door when i opened it and slip inside really fast. then they have to jump over you to get out and you can get the door shut before they figure out whats going on.
your cat likes you-she will wait for you when you call her name? correct?
Its hard to train any cat. If it is an indoor cat it will probably only run out the door like mine do roll around on the concrete. Just don't let the cat stay out there bring it back in immediately. I would suggest taking the cat to the vet and getting a micro-chip installed with you new address in the event your cat does run away. Its not expensive and you have a much better chance of getting your cat back if she runs away. The other more extreme and expensive way would be to get a shock collar and set up the in yard fencing so the cat will not leave your yard. I would opt for the first option. Anyway hope this helps. - Mark
I got a scat mat when I wanted to keep my six month old kitten away from the front door. It worked for her so that I could get in the door. So you need to figure out if you can rig one up on your new door. My Sylvie learned to wait on the other side of the mat so I could get in without her running out.
It is easier to control them when you are in the house. I had a friend with eight indoor cats and she kept a supply of cat toys by the door and would throw one across the room so she could get out the door!
