pregnancy and toxoplasmosis
Pregnant women should wear gloves when scooping litter boxes in case they forget to wash their hands after scooping litter boxes. There is not need for pregnant women to worry about simply being near the litter box or the cat itself. You can pet and hold your cat.
The greatest danger for pregnant women in regards to acquiring toxoplamosis is to eat raw or undercooked meat or from contaminating food with knives, utensils, cutting boards and other foods that have had contact with raw meat.
If a person did get toxoplasmosis, the symptoms will vary, from none, to flu-like symptoms. In the more rare cases, there will be damage to the eyes, or other organs, but that mostly happens to people with weak immune systems.
If a pregnant women becomes infected with toxoplasmosis while pregnant, the baby may be born with no apparent problems, or might have eye or brain damage.
So, to summarize, you don't need to worry about the cat.
