re:introducing cats
my older cat is very friendly and loves attention and he gets LOADS of it!plenty of cuddling and treats..could he be threatened by the new kitten? and if so how can we show him there is nothing to fear, I haven't changed the way I interact with him I even make more time than ever to play with him etc..still all he wants to do is pick on the new kitten I feel sorry for her because its her second night away from her litter and she hasn't gotten any good attention from our older cat on the other hand, I am worried about my original cat suffering from stress and possibly a change in his temperment
Answers:Things will sttle down eventually. Imagine if you lived with your family and then all of sudden, with no explanation, another person just popped up. They will work it out, just make sure to keep them apart when they are alone so the little one doesn't get hurt. Try playing with them together. It's normal for animals to make sure that the new guy is sure who is in charge.
initially the older cat will feel very jealous, so try this:
sit with the older cat in the room but dont touch him
get someone to bring the kitten in so the older cat see it
as soon as the older cat sees the kitten stroke the older cat loads
do this several times, then eventually the older cat should get the message that everytime the kitten is around, the older cat gets fuss and attention, this way he will like the kitten.
Introducing cats is a difficult thing. Cats tend to be very territorial. Time is the best way to get them used to each other. Also, don't try to force them to interact as that can cause them to be spiteful of each other. As much as you want to spoil your cat, keep in mind the kitten needs just as much attention so just spend it equally with each.
=) Good luck with them, and try to reward any friendly behavior with a treat!
You should try to re introduce them
he shouldn't be threatoned just as long you are both cats the same amount of attention
