Should be easier for a kitten though.

You just have to let her get used to you. Get her to smell your hands when she comes closer. Play with bits of string in front of her (gently). Talk in a quiet, soft voice. It will take awhile you just have to be patient. My bf and I took in a stray cat and after about 2 or 3 wks she settled in like she'd always been here! Don't ever give up on them! Best Wishes and give your kittens my love!!
Surely shy and tame

are one and the same

If she was wild & ferrel

then proceed with peril

I'd begin by offering her small amounts of treats or at least let her see you when you're doing feedings. She'll associate you with her necessity and hopefully, should help to get her to approach you.

Another thing is cat's have a sense of smell 20 times better then us mere humans, so use that in your favor. Has she picked out a sleep area? If so, you may want to put something with your personal scent there, like a shirt. That'll help familiarize her with who you are.

As she slowly (cause it'll be a slow process) gets used to you, try a cat brush and gingerly begin stroking the side of her jaw. Most kittens are comforted by being stroked on the sides of their mouths as it represents their mommy licking their face/cleaning them.

Try to interact with her as often as possible, but be sure to not invade her space either. You want her to learn that you're there to be her lifelong friend. And since cats are normally independant, the whole "Hey, this is my space.go away" hiss, is definitely something you don't want to attempt.
