It's not just age, it's weight.
Kittens can be castrated as soon as the testicles drop, but it is best if they weigh about 2 pounds or more.
We've done them as young as 4 weeks old, although 8 weeks is more comfortable for the staff. but either way, even the tiny ones (2 pounders) come out fine.
Usually it's at 8 weeks old or later, as long as the testicles have dropped. Some vets won't neuter before 10 weeks of age.
Most vets want any type of pet to be at least 6 months old before spaying or neutering. Some vets will do it for a younger pet, but the standard is 6 months.
