it would certainly depend on how old your cat is, if he is a kitten he probably has worms. If he is full grown and has had fleas, he could certainly have tapeworm, if he is underweight and eats more than usual, he could have parasites. I have never heard of scooting on the carpet as a symptom of worms. Your best bet would be to have your vet do a stool check for parasites, some can only be seen microscopically.

(Sometimes) a bloated appearance, excessive eating and drinking, excessive sleeping, scooting their butt on the floor, sometimes there's blood and/or worms in the stool, weight loss, and excessive cleaning of the anal area. The cat may present with any, all, or none of these symptoms.but usually, there's at least one. And the eyes and coat will be far from top condition since the nutrients the cat should be getting are being robbed by the parasites.

I've got to clarify on this. There are only two worms that can be seen by the human eye; tapeworms and roundworms. Tapeworm segments (which are actually small sacs filled with tapeworm eggs) can sometimes be found in the litter and/or stuck in the fur in the cat's anal area. They are small and white, resembling a grain of rice. Roundworms are much bigger. If the cat spits one up or poops one out, you'll know it; they're longer (like a spaghetti noodle) and a brownish color.
