Sounds like a tabby and tabbies are really pretty cats-had a orange male tabby years ago-bribed a kid to get it out of the yard of people who were not taking care of it and used to show up at my house and I'd feed it and so on. Finally told them next time i'll keep it and it din't come but I kept thinking of it and just had to have it.

Sounds like a tabby to me. If he/she has ears that are folded, then it is a scottish fold.

hard to say without a picture. Mostly likely you just have a long-haird tabby. I think you'd know if you had a purebred.
