I went to the vet and got frontline.It can be expensive but it really worked.If it is an indoor cat make sure you flea bomb your house first though.It won't do you any good to treat the cat if your house has fleas in it.

If a flea infestation gets bad enough, it can be incredibly difficult to get rid of. First, take your cat to the vet and get a few month's worth of Advantage, Frontline, or Revolution. Ask for the cat to be flea dipped to remove any current fleas, and then apply the medication.
Only about 10% of the fleas are on your animals. The other 90% are in your carpet, furniture, blankets, bedding, etc etc. Wash everything that you can and vacuum every day for the next 2 weeks or so. Sprinkle flea dust into your carpet and vacuum it up (be sure to remove any pets from the area while you are treating the carpet). You can also flea bomb. Don't forget to vacuum the furniture. Frontline is the best it is expensive but it is worth it we had an outbreak from a stray we brought in and all 5 of my cats had to get it. It worked. No more fleas and it lasts a month in case any flea eggs were left behind on the furniture ect.
