My first issue is that you have a kitten that is FAR too young.

My second is that you are abusing the cat already. DO you rub a child's nose in poop if he poops his pants? No. So why would it be ok to do this to a cat?

Most cats pick it up naturally. However, yours obviously is not. If he's using the general vicinity of the box, there are several reasons.

1. He is sick. Have a vet check him out

2. He can't get into the box - Try using a pie pan to make it easier for him.

3. He doesn't like the litter. Switch to a standard unscented litter. No clumping. No crystals. No cedar. Simple unscented cat litter.

4. The box smells or isn't clean. Buy a new box. If it is a new box, clean it more often (if he's using it at all). Dump out the used litter more often. Also, consider adding another box. Some cats won't poop and pee in the same box.

If he's using random spots around the house, then there are some different issues:

1. Make sure he can easily get to the box. Kittens sometimes don't want to have to travel across the house to go potty. Add a second box that's easier for him to reach. You can probably remove this as he gets older, but keep ONE of them in the same place.

2. Make sure there's nothing obstructing the room with the box. Is it clean? Is the door all the way open? Does he have to do anything weird to get to it?
