why are all cats neurotic to a point2007-11-25 12:31:33

I have a regular cat, got her since she was 2-3 months old.She lives with us for 3 years now, we treat her like good responsible People would do,no harm has ever come to her. But she acts mostly, like we beat her up on a regular basis.She is sometimes afraid of her own shadow,and jolts by the slightest noise.?Whats wrong with her, she is otherwise a normal and healthy cat.

She is a cat, and that is her nature. Seriously. I have had my cat for over a year, and he still gets startled when I move too fast. It is the survival instincts kicking in and taking over the preserve the cat from perceived danger.

Some cats are more easily startled than others, and some are just really excitable. It is one of the fun things about owning a cat and being a cat. They don't really follow rules, and they can change from minute to minute.

I walked into my living room the other day and my cat jumped down from the windowsill and tore past me like a dog was on his heels. 2 seconds later he came out from under the bed and wanted to have his head scratched. It was either a kitty game or something outside startled him.

cats have different characters and you just have one of the nervous variety. It could be genetics - maybe she comes from a family of jumpy cats. But, something scary or abusive could have happenend to her in the early months that scarred her for life and made her very neurotic. I adopted an older cat who was quite cool except on garbage truck day when he'd go crazy, dash around the room and hide like a bomb was about to drop on him. I guessed that he spent his early days on the street and got spooked by big trucks.

SHe's just a sketchy cat. They are not all like that.but cat's, like, women, can vary in temperment depending on their experiences in the past and the mood they are in. I have a cat that I can vacuum, with the hose. I have a cat who washes her face in the sink in the morning while we brush our teeth witht the running water. Cats are intelligent.and where intelligence is.unprecitablilty prospers.

You might try conditioning her to a low level of noises, then gradually increase decibels until she is used to it. Skittish kitties are not abnormal. But it's a pain when they feel the need to "escape" from your lap after hearing a noise. My parents have a dog who is afraid of thunder, and yes, I know a few skittish kitties.
