I think it just feels good. I suppose you could say that it stimulates something hormonal in the sense that pleasurable sensations stimulate the release of endorphins, but no more so than a neckrub does in us.

I don't know. Mine like being tickled under the chin and on the sides of their cheeks. Makes them purr.
i think it just helps the itches.. my cat does the same thing but i saw some fleas under there when there were fleas no where else on his body but i dont think its hormonal generally

Kitty has scent glands in well-placed parts of her body.including her face (around the ears and eyes and on the chin). She's marking you as hers! You can't smell it, but other kitties can.
That is one place a cat cant lick to clean itself when u tickle him ithink it is helping him cause you r helping to clean him.
