why does a cat yowl
A yowl rather then a meow is often one cat calling another when in season or an entire male calling for a female.
They can get very loud (understatement LOL)
But then if you have one of the orientals that is their natural voice. I have a burmese who, when he wants my attention, yowls at me. It is their way of communicating
yes my cat does she also barks believe it or not but not like loud ones just wimpy barks so i think she would also yowl because maybe she is in heat or is just looking for attention or a friend
Why do you yell?

Females are so annoying with their howling when they come into season, spaying will prevent her from coming into heat. Intact males will howl and carry on when a female comes into heat or if there is another intact male around too. Males will start a cat fight. Its a horrible sound. Cats howl, just like a dog will growl at another dog. This is how they communicate with one another. Its the worst sound ever and I can't stand it when they get started doing it!!
Yowling? That is when the females are in heat. It can get rather irritating too. We used to have a female named PeeWee and I swear, that's all she knew how to do. It got real high pitched and long drawls.
If the cat is doing this it normally means the cat is in heat & ready to mate. It's normal for that to happen.
If it's a girl, there's a pretty good chance that she is in heat. Getting a cat spayed eliminates the yowling, if indeed she is in heat. But if she's not, it could just be her breed.
Cats can yowl for any number of reasons. The number 1 reason is mating. A cat that hasn't been fixed will yowl to attract the attention of those of the opposite sex.
However, even after they've been neutered, they can display this behavior. My male was neutered over a year ago..but he can still smell females in heat. Just last week, he was scratching and sniffing at the door, then started yowling.
Our female was spayed a few months ago.last week, she snuck out through the patio door. When I got to her, she was rolling around in some dirt (cats in heat roll around like that)..after I put her back inside, she started yowling. Oy.
Cats also yowl when they're in pain. And I swear my male sometimes does it just when he's bored. Little booger.
