why does my cat keep knocking over her water bowl
everyday i fill her bowl up with fresh water, most of the time filtered water. for the last week, several times she has flipped it completely over, and is very thirsty when i get home. i know she loves running water, specifically the bathtub and faucet, but she has never had problems with her water bowl until recently. she is about 8-9 months old, and during the day she is in my room while i am gone. tonight when i got home, her bowl was knocked over, so i gave her some more water and she was very thirsty, but after a few seconds she dumped it again. help. i am worried about her during the day cause i am gone anywhere from 8-14 hours sometimes.
Answers:Maybe she doesn't realise water is in it, or can't get to it?
You could also try buying her another bowl that can't be knocked over, like a stainless steel one. Hope this helps! xx
I don't know but you should get a bowl with a weighted bottom so she can't.
try giving her non filtered water she what she does with that if she is still dumbing it try changing her water dish to some thing that is smaller maybe she can't reach the water when it gets down so far cause the bowl is to big for her that is what i would try best of luck

i dont think she can think at all
look at the size of her brain
get a vessel that the cat cannot tip over.
I think that it is because she is board we had one of those 2 litter bottle waterers and the cat that I use to have would drink until she would make it glug and i always thought that it was because she liked the cause and effect. may be you could get one of those kind of waters or may be you could get her some toys to play with while you are not home
This one is very unusual! Until/unless asking the advice of a vet, have you considered STABLIZING the bowl in some way that she cannot knock it over? That's the only option I can think of at the moment. Consider also, leaving your cat for as long as 8-14 hours can distress her sufficiently to motivate curious behavior, that can continue even when you get home! Some cats get lonely to the point of neurosis. Would you consider another cat companion--if acceptable to both of you?
I notice my cat does the same sometimes, she is a young cat too and I see her playing with her bowl, sometimes she knocks it over, I think she likes the sight of water moving, she stares at it until it stops, cats are very attracted to stuff moving, my cat also knocks her bowl over on purpose and then lays down on the water, I live in California so I assume she is trying to cool off.
