why is this cats ears collapsed2007-11-25 12:33:06

it is a stray cat, most likely somebody dropped her off on my farm.

i have to wait until i have enough money to take her to vet, so it's going to be two weeks.

both of her ears are caved in. she looks like she don't have any ears at all. Any ideas of what it could be and what i can do to help her until she sees the vet?

Answers:

It could be a scottish fold, or mixed with that. But their ears lay flat, they don't look callapsed really. What it could be is that this cat at some point in time had ear hematomas. Which means it's ears filled up with blood in the subcutaneous layer, sometimes due to trama, sometimes due to a severe ear infection. Since she is a stray cat, if that happend to her, she likely didn't get treatment for it, which would make her ears kind of shrivel up, and look wrinkled and collapsed. It shouldn't do him any harm if the hematomas are gone. Maybe just a little discomfort.

She may be a breed called a "scotish fold" thier ears are bred to be caved in, or she may have a rare mutation, I new a cat like that once, it is not at all life-threating
Sounds like a scottish fold.
