I have a 1 1/2 year old cat and a 5 month old kitten. They get along really well and love to play together. My question is that when they are laying together the older one will bathe the other and bite her throat. The kitten really doesnt seem to mind at all and sometimes seems thats she likes it. Is there a reason for that and why would she like it?

Answers:

She is biting her neck as if to say, stay put or sit still. Cats have a language of their own, a special way to communicate. The older cat's mothering instincts are kicking in, showing her what to do, she is helping the younger kitten with social skills. Good luck, that's cute!

The older cat is asserting dominance.
my cats do the same thing they like it too!!i have no idea why they do it though.
She probalby feels safe with the older cat. It sounds like the older cat is acting as if the kitten were her own and taking care of it like a mother cat would.
She is asserting her dominance and also giving love bites and playing with the younger kitty.
it reminds her of being groom by her mother. the older cat does it because of instincts.
Because the kitten's Mama used to do the exact same thing.
The kitten loves the attention . and the bigger cat is cleaning the little one.. the big one probably wants the little guy to play but it isn't getting the hint yet.. they will be fine.. they like each other and as long as the bigger cat isn't tearing the hair off of the little ones throat and making it sore don't worry about it.. Little guy may have a flea in there the big one is trying to get.

If it makes sores spank it when it chews on the little one. and put an antibiotic sauve on the sore.. it will go right away..

they seem to be getting along great.. don't worry. if it is getting hurt it will cry or move away

Our cats do the same thing. Our middle cat, when she was a kitten, would growl and scream and act like the older cat was killing her. Then as soon as they were separated, she would go right back and stick her head under the older cats face so he would do it some more. It's just something cats do.
