will my 9month old cat calm/quieten down
i got him last week, he is neutered, vaccinated, chipped everything and so affectionnate its great! also he's really playful. the stuff that bothers me is that he miows all the time when not playing/cuddling/eating/sleepi. he was rescued from a house with loads of cats and i wonder if he is calling for his buddies? also he's itching to go out but need to keep him in 3 weeks. he's really loving and attention doesn't stop him miowing as he gets loads but when he wants to miow that all he does. and as for being playful, perhaps a little too playful sometimes, he tears around the house knocking things over and is so hyper, especially on a morning! will he calm down? I've had cats before but was only young when they were young so don't remember them being this wild playing and this noisy!
Answers:I have had cats pretty much since i can remember and have come across all sorts of wonderful personalities. There are some cats out there, especially Siamese cats who are very vocal. I have a tabby and he doesn't keep quiet for the life of him. It is entertaining "talking" to him though. I've had a few kittens that have been very active and play-full as kittens and right up until 2-3 years old but they usually do calm down. Its a good thing your kitty is active as opposed to being withdrawn. Coming from a house full of cats, yes he might feel a little lonely and will cry but as long as he gets the appropriate love and attention then he'll be fine. Is he used to being outside? Then hang in there for the few weeks and then see what happens after when you let him out. Just don't get into the habit of petting him whenever he cries because then he will cry all the time. Let him settle in for a few more weeks and see if he calms down. If not take him to your vet and see maybe he doesn't suffer from any underlying symptoms - hyperactive Good luck!
use a water pistil ,it not cruel it really work .because cat don't like water so squirt it when its doing something you don't like and it wont do it again .good luck .PS i did this with my own cats and it worked !
Get him a few toys!
Don't squirt him, he's still a kitten and is just really playfull. You just need to put up with it for 3 more weeks, once he gets outside he will do all his running about there. Move anything valuable and breakable till then. He could be calling for his buddies but he will meet more when he gets out and will have lots to occupy him.
lol yep your right tiger ..I did that too.they soon learn, what about toys and stuff they can really get involved with like wool and soft toys, sounds like he may be missing his chums, maybe even another wee pal to play with ??
Gotta love cats. Sounds like he is happy with the attention and enjoys it. If he was in a house with a bunch of cats he probably is basking in the love your showing him. As he gets older he will settle down .. some. Remember, a Cat is a Kitten for the first 2 years of there live, so they love to run and play and meow ALOT, but he does it all out of love, enjoy
I think that yes, he will calm down, and quieten down, but it is going to take time. Cats are social creatures, and are often best kept in pairs (but ideally not littermates) as they will keep eachother company. I would try hard not to reward his mewing with attention- wait for a break in the chatter and then cuddle him. Try to get him to dissassociate mewing from attention, and he will find it less rewarding to do so. Also, get toys! Those big scratching tower posts are idel- and very easy to make. You just need some plywood squares, some cotton rope, and some thick cardboard tubes. You can carpet the squares of wood, use an inudstrial stapler. Fix the tubes to the squares with a staple gun, and wrap the rope tightly around them. If you are going to make it several stages high, the bottom needs to be a weighted wooden box so that it does not fall over. You can hang toys for the cat to 'bat' and play with. I like bunches of feathers myself- my cats love them! This way, he will have another focus for his activities, and you can reward him for playing with his stuff, not yours!
Yes I am sure your cat will calm down, it is still a little child, enjoy! it will be fat and grumpy soon enough.
hi yes your cat will calm down wen it gets used to you and the eviroment i know cause I've got 1 kitten and an adult cat no need to worry it will calm down. he miowing all the time cause he wants someone around him and he is also missing his buddies. my kittens also ruining all my stuff don't worry he will definitely calm down.
It is possible that he's just a talkative cat. I have a cat that meows constantly, for food, to be pet, once I'm petting her she meows, when she's playing - she meows constantly and I asked the vet if she's alright and some cats just meow alot. I personally think it's adorable, if I say something to her. she meows back and guests just think it's so amusing or anyone I'm on the phone with doesn't believe she'll actually have a conversation with me. Also, my cat is EXTREMELY hyper, she knows places she's not allowed to be and she'll climb onto things then call me to her to show me that she's breaking the rules. He may be trying to test you to see how much you'll let him get away with. It could also be the breed of the cat. I have a Singapura which is known to always be hyper for the life of the cat no matter what age. Do some research on the breed.
