His meowing could very well be linked to his previous living conditions, as well. "Calling for his buddies" as you stated. He's only been in your home a week..he's insecure, unsure..basically scared. Once he settles in and learns to trust you and his surroundings, he should quiet down a bit. Just give him time and lots of love.
If you want to help calm him down, there is a product called Rescue Remedy. I've heard some people swear by it:

Good luck!
Thats just him being a kitten. Some are more loud than others and some more playful but its all the same. He will calm down around 2yrs. But for now be strong tell him no when he is bad and give him love and priase when he dose as you asked.
Give him some toys - he sounds as if he's gettin bored being kept in all the time -
No probably not. My cat Karma is exactly the same. Everyone told me he would settle down once he'd been neutered/ grew up. He's now 2 and a 1/2 and is showing no signs of chilling out. Annoying it may be but aren't you glad he's not a cat that sleeps all day? As where would be the fun in that?
He will trust me go to the vets and ask for a plug in type of air freshener for cats that send out a calming smell costs about 拢30 not cheap but works very quickly
