ok, i know i have to get the vet to check my cat for worms! but would it cost anything to just bring in a stool sample to any vet to know what kinda worm it is?

Generally, Yes. If you actually bring in a stool sample and they run a fecal for worms it will cost you. If you just go to your vet, tell them your cat has worms and how you now your cat has them (did you see them, is there blood in her stool, etc.), they can generally sell you the medicine without the sample.

Like the others said, they're still going to charge you. Because it costs them money (in time and testing).

Most vets don't need a fecal sample to treat for worms. Roundworms are usually seen before too long in the litterbox or coming out of the cat's rear end, and tapeworms are detected by most owners after they witness a tapeworm segment somewhere. Usually, your eyewitness account of the worm(s) is enough for a vet, and they will treat.

It only cost me $20 to get my female treated for tapeworm.

PLEASE don't even CONSIDER using an OTC worming medication. They are often inaffective, and can cause a lot of discomfort to your cat.

Edit: I just read your first question, and what you're seeing coming out of your cat ARE tapeworm segments. The tapeworm in the belly has small segments on its tail that it routinely sheds. By the time they are shed, they are basically just egg sacs. They will move around for a few hours, then dry and look like nothing more than a grain of white rice. From what my vet told me, you could eat one of these and STILL not get a tapeworm. The only way to get one is by eating a flea or infected rodent.
