Adult dog peeing on the carpet after being outside2007-11-25 2:58:05

HELP! My Boxer is peeing randomly on the carpets (right in front of us) after having been outside. We have recently moved and there has been a lot of disruption in his life, however he was always completely housebroken and never peed or pooped in our old home. What can I do? What could be causing this? I can't take much more! Thanks for any and all help.

well, as I'm reading your question I can see the first line of the first answer. a smack will fix it.. BS!!

When a dog who was fully trained starts peeing constantly and randomly like this, it's typically a sign of urinary tract infection. Smacking your dog for being sick is ridiculous. Next time you catch your dog about to do this, try to capture a sample in a clean container, and take it to the vet for analysis (yuck, I know, but worth not hauling an upset and/or sick dog to the vet unnecessarily). If it's a UTI, your vet will tell you how to proceed. If not, he may still have ideas, other than hitting him or rubbing his nose in it.

A swift smack on the head everytime he does it will teach him. Nothing harmful. Next time he thinks about it he wont do it. He will learn after a little bit. Loud yells at him as well will work. He just needs to realize whats right and whats wrong thats all

When you catch him, rub his nose in it, and give him a light pop on the snout. If it gets to the point where he just won't stop, get a large bag (at least 3 times bigger than the dog), and when you catch him, rub his nose in it, put him in the bag, gently shake, and put the bag outside, so when he gets out of the bag, he is outside. Be gentle!! I have done this a few times, and no dog has ever been afraid of the bag.

I have a boxer also, hence the name.and she will go in the house, if I have not spent enough time with her or I am not spending quality time with her.we recently moved and it made it worse for her as well.but I am starting to get her out of the habit when I scold her by telling her no and putting her back out.she is alot different than my weimeraners, they don't need as much attention as the boxer.try scolding him, not by rubbing his nose in it, but telling him no in a firm voice and placing him outside.when you catch him going outside praise him and give him some special time for play.

First off I would have him checked for an infection if that isn't it I would say he is doing this out of spite or stress from the move--It is not uncommon during stressful times that dogs will do things like this--Sometimes you will have to go as far as re-housebreaking them-Make sure when he does do this that you clean the spot well so the odor is not there to bring him back to that spot--Also try keeping him ON a leash at all times when in the house with you for a few days so that you know what he is doing at all times--Take him out often and praise him TONS when he does go outside--if he wont go outside put him in his crate Just like you would a puppy when house breaking UNTIL he does go outside--I bet after things calm down and he gets used to everything he wont have any more issues.. It depends. One cause could be the carpet. If you didn't get new carpet when you moved in there could be old "spots" from previous occupants of the house. That is the only possible explanation that I can think of. You could probably get a professional carpet cleaner to come and clean your carpets. It might be expensive, but it should work. If all else fails than i recommend getting new carpet (sorry :'( )
