Advice for introducing nearly 2 yr old german shepherd to a stray 4 week old kitten who came to live
ok heres my advice:
try introduceing the kitten and the dog throw a glass door or window just to see how they react to each other.try this a few times so the dog gets used to the kitten.
next try throw a screen door or an open window with a screen.be sure to have someone with the cat and someone with the dog.let them stiff each other and get used to each other.
if all goes well after that, let the kitten and the dog meet face to face with nothing in between.make sure that you have one or more people restraining the dog. and one person with the kitten.
let them sniff each other and get used to each other.
then let the kitten go but still hold the dog.slowly let the two meet each other.remember you dont want to freak any of them out with the others presence.
hope this helps. :) this actually works and it helped introduce my cats with my dogs.
get a rope, tie them together for a day
neck, legs and mouth (so they dont bite eachother)
they 'll get the point
Leave them in the house together by themselves. seriously. that is what I did with my cat and a 2 year old doberman. The cat will hide if it is scared and the dog will get use to the smell.
If the dog is smart enough, he/she will recognize the cat as a baby and want to protect it.
If the dog is stupid, it will want to kill the cat.
