Advice my vet is not open till Sunday2007-11-25 2:58:06

My little Yorkie has taken to his bed today, not eating or drinking, doesn't seem to be in pain but sad and wanting to rest, i have had him out in the garden to wee and he has walked with an arch to his back?normally he is running about but cant even be bothered to bark @ the newspaper boy.

Answers:

you could take him the the pet emergency, but be prepared to pay a little more than your regular vet. it soulds like it could be his back, maybe a disc that has slipped or bulging. or if he has had any people food with fat in it he could very likely have a pancreatitis, they will stand with their backs hunched and guarded because their abdomen is very sore. if you dont go to the E.R. today definately take him to your vet first thing in the am good luck!

could be bladder/kidney infection..or stones. Can you see a emerg. vet today?
No clue, see if you can get in with another vet.
Well, since your vet opens tomorrow just let him rest bc maybe hes tired? Maybe he broke a bone doing somthing dangerous like jumping off a high place. So just leave him be for another day. Or you can ask your family members or anyone you know that has a yorkie and see what they say. Just ask around your neighborhood and stuff.
Sounds he is in pain. Has your vet an answering service that gives the phone number of who is on call or check for emergency vet services, most towns have them
Wow, It has to be something painful. Have you seen his poop?I guess he might have eaten some object and got stuck in the rectum. If he whines or looks for his rear constantly that might be the problem. If you gave him some chicken bones or similar, do not keep doing that. Yorkies are too small for bones.
Friendly Hello, I would strongly suggest calling a different vet. Reason is. Your breed of dog is susceptible to many different kinds of problems and anemia is one of them. So, this is what I would recommend to you. If going to a different vet is something that you can not do at all. Then, I would if I were in your situation. 1. Go to store and get Plain pedilite for children. 2, offer this to your dog. If he does not drink on his own then get a syringe and use it to force him to. It is imperative that your little friend gets hydrated. The pedilite will give him electrolytes he needs desperately. 2. Get yourself some friend hamburger and boiled rice. Strain and rinse with cold water. Offer a small amount of this to him. You really need to do these things. But most importantly I stress go to the vet today. Even if you have to go to a EMS vet and pay a ton of money. Because once your little one goes down to far. Sometimes you can not bring them back around. Blessings Kelly
Could be a kidney infection, constipation, or any number of ailments. Try to keep him on plenty of fluids, of course. It's kind of pricey but in my area we have an afterhours emergency clinic, have you checked to see if you have something similar? I recently switched vets but the new and the old both had emergency contact numbers/pagers for emergencies - most do these days. Yours probably does, too, and can advise you as to your best course of action.
