Another boxer
Hi.
Ellie is 13 weeks now, she is a good little girl, she is house trianed, leash trained, can follow commands and she loves her own space in her pen when we arent around.
I have always wanted to have two boxers and now i own Ellie was wondering if it is a good idea to get her a friend to play with.
The only problem i have is i work 9am-5pm but my patner comes home to feed Ellie at lunch time and my mum has her from 3.30pm till we get home. Ellie gets loads of attention and comes almost everywhere with us.
Is it a good idea to get her a friend?
Would a male or female be best if i was to get another boxer. I wouldnt want to breed them.
How do other people get on owning two boxers and having to work?
Advice would be much appreciated.
Answers:Dont worrry about the work thing, its a fact of life.people have to work and dogs cant go with them. It sound like your putting the effort in already so you should be all set. If you going to get another id suggest male, IMO two females can be the most difficult to have get along. One thing to consider when getting another dog, once you have two it can be much more difficult to take them places (freinds houses, parks, etc.) If you do alot out of the house now with your dog you may want to think twice about getting another, but if they basically stay at home and go for walks you should be fine. Good Luck
Remember that 2 dogs is not just double the work, also double the money (food, vet, kennels, etc). I think if she's settled with you, it would be a good time to get her a companion. As for the sex of the dog, it'll depend on Ellie's preferences! If getting opposite sex, don't forget to get them neutered!
I have a Boxer that is 5 months old and also an older Beagle. I would be lost if I didn't have a play mate for her. Boxers need constant activity so I would say having a second one would be great. I have read though that it should never be 2 female boxers together, only Male and Female. Ask your vet too. Good Luck!!
We have 2 boxers, they are a year apart, they keep each other company, and they are super dogs. I got the second one which is female, to give my male company, my male is fixed. Boxers need lots of attn, and stimulation, so it helps (I think) for them to have someone to play with. We are planning on breeding her once she is 2 and the vet had done all the genetic testing, so we can have the health guarantee. But I say yes, another boxer is in order.
i don't know what age of boxer your thinking about pup? or one older like one? i would go for an older one that is housebroke as a pup lots of work . but i would do it cause i don't have boxers but an older dog. it gave her new life and you would not know she is like 10 and a fixed fem. and its a young male like 3 now and they are buds. mine are out doors but stay on back porch at nite at first the pup got chewed out but also my pup was not too crazy acting it was calm and eased into being great buds so do it but watch what you choose
That is a wonderful idea!
