Anybody know a good way to get the smell of dog pee off of the dog
My dog has a tendency to pee on himself. Not all the time, but enough to ask this question. He's a 2 yr old short legged beagle and his urine smells HORRIBLE. He hasn't been neutered yet. but I usually have to scrub him 3 or 4 times really good to get the most the way gone. Anybody know of anything I can use to get it out quicker? I know the carpet/floor cleaners out there, but I don't think it's safe to use those on my dog.. any suggestions? Thanks!
Answers:Let's go back to Chemistry. Urine has an acid base, so you would need an alkaline base to neutralize the compound. Try a baking soda paste applied to the affect area. Just mix baking soda with water until you get a paste like consistency, then apply. Be sure to rinse well, you could follow with a good smelling shampoo if desired.
DON'T use tomato juice because it too, has an acid base, and it will intensify the smell instead of neutralizing it.
Getting the dog neutered will also help tone down the strength of the urine smell.
Tomato juice will work after a dog has been sprayed with a skunk, should work for urine too.
tomato juice it works well enough to get the smelll off.
Bad smelling urine can be a sign of a urinary tract infection or other health problem. You should take a urine sample to your vet and have it checked.the dog may need something as simple as a course of antibiotics. If that's not the problem, then neutering should help,as intact males have stronger-smelling urine than neutered ones.In the meantime, use baby wipes on him after he pees, this should help with the odor.
Either shampoo the area and hose it down or use baby wipes.
Try using the Dawn dish washing liquid,it is safe to use on all pets,as it is used by recues of all wildlife where there are oil spills in oceans.Just be sure to rinse well .
add some bakins soda 1/4c.to bathwater and a lil bit of "NaturesMiricle"brand.Stain / odor remover. this says it,s natural, and it hasn,t hurt my pets,i also use alittle downey in water solution around their quarters where they lay..and by the way have him neutered,. :)beagles are in the hunting breed and prove this notion that somedogs have a "sick sense"(6th )TEe hee.lol And Then Again could have a kidney or bladder problem, check it out?!
PLEASE neuter your dog! that is the first step to gaining control of the problem. next, keep him from marking in your home by keeping him on a leash so that when he goes to mark, grab the leash, give him a sharp tug, and tell him "quit". then take him outside to pee.
