Anyone have a Dandie Dinmont Terrier2007-11-25 2:58:18

I bought one at a pet store last year and they told me it was part cocker spaniel and part Pekinese. She's really timid, and will hide when new people come around. She is sweet as can be, but kind of on the dim witted side. What is yours like? Are there other ways to train her?

Wow! I saw one at the dog show once. Rare breed, but check it out at akc.org. I hope you got a registration with the dog when you bought it. Next time purchase a dog from a small well loved home breeder. A lot of times pet store puppies are puppy mill puppies, and a health desaster! Get your new pup vet checked and keep up on shots and checks regularly!! Best of wishes!

Dandies are a rare breed, unlikely to end up in a pet shop. And since pet shops can sell purebred dogs for more money than mutts, even without papers, it is highly unlikely that they would claim a dog was a mix if it was an actual breed, especially a rare one. Therefore, I highly doubt that you have a Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

Most of the Dandies I've met have been pretty bright. Cockers are dim.
