Anyone have experience with "Wobblers" disease
I think my 9 yr old Rott might have it :( Please describe symptoms and any medications that helped.
Answers:Wobblers isn't a disease, it is a compression of the vertebrae in the neck. This can be caused by a defect from birth (hereditary), injury, or poor nutrition during critical growth periods.
In order to get a proper diagnosis for this your dog needs either an x-ray, mylogram or MRI. Some of the symptoms are instability in walking/standing, partial paralysis in hind and sometimes front legs, sometimes severe pain in the neck area, inability to move the head properly, lack of ability to walk well on tile/linoleum floors, bunny hop type run, inability to turn feet over if placed on toes..these are only a few symptoms that might be present in wobblers.
The treatments:
surgery (not always successful it depends on where the instable vertebrae is and what caused the instability), Gold bead implants or acupuncture. Also predisone can help reduce the inflammation.
Your vet needs to make a proper diagnosis and set up the right treatment for you if your dog does have wobblers.
