Anyone have experience with no bark collars/systems2007-11-25 2:58:20

I have a Pomeranian puppy and he is having trouble getting used to being left in his crate when I have to work. He is never alone for long periods of time (as I know all dogs need more attention than that). I live in an apt building and don't want to get kicked out. After I put him in his crate, he barks and whines (loudly!) for about 15 minutes. Has anyone used the citronella or electrical collars? Or the sound emitting wall units? Any other advice? Thanks!

I don't like those collars myself. I think it's better to let him get used to the crate slowly, WHILE you're home. Put him in it for brief periods while you're there and let him see you while he's in it. Then let him out for a while, and put him back in again for short times. It will take a while to get used to it, but he WILL get used to it. He just needs to realize that it's only a temporary situation, and you will be returning. I know how you feel about upsetting neighbors, but really.15 minutes isn't bad! Soon, he'll only do it for 10, and less and less. You're not doing as badly as you think!

MAYBE..you could even speak to your neighbors and explain the situation. Then, when they hear him barking they'll understand what's going on, and know that you're training him and that it won't take terribly long before he learns.

Personally I dont think that shock collars are humane. Think about it. If he only does it for about 15 minutes that shouldnt be too much of a problem. How long have you had him? He will get used to being in a crate it is just going to take time. Try leaving him in there for different periods of time.starting off slow. But please dont use a shock collar, put one of those things up to your neck and yell..

A friend of mine just put a shock collar on her Papillon yesterday because he barks incessantly outside. Already, it's helped. The neighborhood is once again quiet. The good thing is, he will eventually learn to be quiet and the collar can go in storage.
