Anyone know any reputable Pembroke Welsh Corgi breeders in Georgia2007-11-25 2:57:41

My husband and I are looking for a male Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy that will mature into a good-sized adult. Anyone know any breeders in Georgia, Florida or Alabama?

We'd like a sable or a fawn colored one, but not a Tri (we just lost our 14 year old Tri last December and I don't think I am ready for another one.)

Go to www.akc.org & find your closest Pembroke Welsh Corgi club chapter. Buy from a breeder that is a club member that is actively showing her dogs to championship titles (proving they are good breed representatives) and that tests & certifies their breeding dogs free from known genetic defects in the breed. These are the best kinds of breeders & will assure a healthy, well adjusted pet from the start - plus the lifelong support of the breeder when questions arise. Good luck!

p.s. FYI to below: People who show divide their litters into 'show quality' (generally a small percentage) and the rest are 'pet quality' - they may have a too long/short muzzle to show, but these minor faults do not effect health. These are the ones they sell for to people for pets & at a lesser price. And still all the same good genes for a healthy pet - a great deal!

I know of a good one in SC, she's a friend of my mother and has been breeding for around 30 yrs, does show dogs. Let me know if you'd like her info.

You might contact your local AKC or Welsh Corgi Club as they will be able to refer you to a repuatable breeder in your area.

I know one in TN. not what you asked, but if you're in mid- or northern GA it wouldn't be too bad of a drive.

I don't completely agree with advice to look for a breeder who actively shows the dogs. That depends on what you plan to do with your own dog. Characteristics preferred in show dogs aren't necessarily what an individual would primarily be searching for in a pet. Nothing wrong with buying a show-quality dog, just that the emphasis may be on characteristics other than what you want.

But I definitely agree that the dogs should be guaranteed healthy and that all common physical problems should be checked for prior to sale of the pups.
