Can I make up my own dog breed and get the AKC to register it as a purebreed
I have been thinking about breeding Maltipoo's, but I got to thinking that maybe making up my own breed would be a better idea. I mean every breed came from wolves anyways, so someone had to make up every breed that we have now. I was thinking that since Siberian Huskys and German Shepards are such good working dogs, then mixing them would give the best of both dogs. There is a great breeder close to where I live that breeds those two dogs as well as Dobermans and Malamutes, so I know I can get good quality adults from this guy. How would I get the AKC to recognize that new breed?
Answers:in my thoughts screw the AKC and their pure bred BS. go for it just for the fun of it
You would have to have a "breed" that breeds true, which takes MANY,MANY generations. No breed recently recognized by the AKC was "just invented". There had been around for a long time! *-A-Poos have been around since I can remember, and they are not AKC registered. Wonder why?
You know, today in my Sunday paper, there were 2 ads for Shepard/Husky pups. Free to good home. So i guess the idea is not original.just that you would be doing it INTENTIONALLY and it sounds like these people had an accident.
And this guy with "champion" Shepards and "champion" Huskies.I highly doubt they are that good quality, or he would be more concerned about having them be part of a mutt breeding program. And soory to tell you, but anyone that breeds 4 breeds of large dogs is NOT a good breeder and is probably a small scale puppy miller.
The breed would have to be around for at least 50 years and be established for the AKC to recognize it. You would have to get others to breed it as well, then cross breed the puppies, and so on. In order for the AKC to recognize the breed, there would have to be standards set for that particular breed. For example: a pug's tail has different requirements for "standard" than a dalmation, and so on. You can write to them on information, and they may be able to help you on breeding your dog. Good Luck!
that would be cool. but no you cant do that
HeHeHaHa, good luck bending that club to new.
you can not. but you can breed them together and sell the puppies privately
Yeah. No that won't happen. Like others have said, You'd have to breed for generations and get them to produce the same traits EVERY time. Also. if there are still dogs in Europe that we do not recognize and they've been around a lot longer than anything you could breed up in the next 50 years.
