Can a dog die from wrong dosage of lyme disease shot2007-11-25 2:58:52

Dog had a lyme disease prevention shot and died that night in its sleep. Is it possible the vet game him to much for his weight?

I would recommend taking him to another vet and getting an autopsy done to see if it was the shot or other causes.good luck

Not likely, the vaccine comes in a small vial and is for any size dog. It could have possibly had a severe reaction to the vaccine and thats what may have caused it to die. If it was acting lethargic or anything like that before it went to sleep it it probably had a vaccine reaction.

The answer I have is probably not - ask the vet if the vial the Lyme vaccine came from was a 1cc dose, and ask if they gave that (it doesn't matter what weight dog you have, 1cc is good for all) If your dog had a reaction, it would have been within an hour of the vaccine, and you probably would have seen hives and swelling around the face, which the vet would be able to stop with antihistamines. It sounds like either you never noticed the hives/swelling and the dog died from asphyxiation while sleeping, or there was some other root cause of death, in either case, it would be a good idea to have the dog autopsied to get a definitive cause of death.

They are NOT given based on weight. Just like ALL vaccines, they it is ONE does for all! The vet would have to be the most TOTAL MORON to give the WRONG dose of vaccine!
