Can my 3 year old dog be taught (at this late stage) not to be aggressive towards other dogs2007-11-25 2:59:42

Thanks to those who asks my previous question - am particularly interested in the age thing this time round (the whole 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks). Would appreciate any input.

With time and patience, a dog can be taught anything. You need to socialize him with other dogs. Try to watch The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic TV and check out his website. He has a knack for retraining owners to get their problem dogs to do what the owners want them to do and he does it well. No yelling, punishing or hitting. He believes in being the pack leader by sending a calm, assertive energy to the dog while you are working with it. I know his methods work as I have tried them with my Boxer. Yes. I work with children all day and by three children (most at least) are capable of understand parents and their rules..they may not always follow them but that's what time out is for. The key is to talk to them about the rule if they break it and let them know why it's imporant that they listen. Keep talking..

Yeah he needs socialising a little at a time. Don't let him eat any other dogs. You can teach any age dog any thing. It takes patience. Its just easier not to let bad habits start
